Hi there!
Our home is now on the market. I’m constantly cleaning! That is the game!
The space I use the most is the kitchen, and today I’d like to show you how we transformed it to appeal to more potential buyers. But first, some before pictures:
As you can see, there is nothing drastically wrong with our kitchen. Right off the bat, even before staging, I decluttered the inside of the cabinets (yes, buyers will look). We also needed to update the outdated faucet!
I took special care of this area which is screaming, “NO SPACE IN THIS KITCHEN!”
This area was bursting at the seams with the recipe books, the platter of fruit, the wine glasses, the kettle… It was just too much.
Then I needed to remove as much clutter as possible from the counter (I usually recommend leaving only one appliance on the counter, but only if it’s in mint condition).
Even after all the decluttering, I knew the kitchen needed some pizzazz… Did you know that 90% of people prefer a white kitchen? That’s right! According to Houzz, Better Homes and Gardens and lots of design publications, the majority of people love a white kitchen.
I’m obviously part of the 10%, but staging the home is not about me!
We definitely didn’t have the budget to completely update our kitchen, and all the doors were still in good condition. So we opted to place a vinyl adhesive right on top of the cabinet doors and frames. It’s called Wrap My Kitchen, and I highly recommend this product for home staging or kitchen updates at a low cost.
Here’s a great video of how it’s installed:
I did the installation myself!
Since I was worried about doing an all-white cabinet (something about my son’s fingers always being greasy!), I decided to go with two colours: white for the upper cabinet and something darker for the bottom.
I ended up picking a bottom colour that went well with our existing counter and the overall colour scheme of our home, WMK-006:
I also painted the upper cabinet’s crown moulding to match the paint.
The results are stunning, if I do say so myself!
I removed most of the recipe books and only kept the nice ones out! I also removed the wine rack under the cabinet and placed the bottles in my newly decluttered cabinet.
The counter is almost empty- there are only two appliances, which I cleaned with baking soda and vinegar. They look brand new!
I styled one little area of the kitchen with a lazy Susan, some gourmet oil bottles and the cutting boards.
I love the kitchen, and I can see why most people love a lighter kitchen. It does feel larger and airier! Hopefully the next home owner will enjoy it!
