Dear 6-years old Sandra,
I know the pain you feel inside and the tears you try to hide. I know this world seems like a big place and you doubt you’ll ever find your way. I know the fears that wrap you up with no end in sight even at this young age. I know life seems so hard and you seem so small.
You are so strong. Stronger then you think you are! It will take time and patience for you to discover just who you are. Yes, the world is a big place and life can be hard at times. But challenges they do make you stronger, smarter, better, wiser. Whenever you face trials of any kind, just remember that they are just part of life, they are not to be fought against. Accept challenges when they come, embrace them. Accept the joy also when it comes, don’t anticipate the next catastrophe!
At school, you’ll have to work harder then others to have the good grades. Not much will come naturally to you but it doesn’t mean your not good at anything. Some things in life are not learned on a school bench.
Sandra, I want you to say YES. Say Yes when it’s uncomfortable, say Yes when you want to say No. Say YES to new friends, adventures, and tears.
I know, your parents fight all the time and you pray to God they will stop but they don’t. Keep praying because prayer may not change the circumstances but it changes you. When you pray, you let go, you are renewed, you are stronger.
And yes, your parents will eventually get a divorce and it’s not your fault. Believe me there is nothing you can do to get them to be together again.
No matter what statistics say, no matter what people say, you will overcome. Because that’s who you are, an overcomer. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Not even your inner self. Speak positively about yourself, even when you don’t believe it. Your words become who you are.
You are not poor; you are temporarily out of cash! You are not fat; you are generously made! You are not dumb, you learn differently. You are not weird; you are unique.
Your girl don’t cry, God will be right here when your world starts to fall. It’s alright, your tears will dry and you’ll soon be free to fly.
You are more then the color of your skin, your height, your weight. Soon you’ll see celebrities spending thousands to have your backside! No amount of training, binging, or starving will ever “fix” anything. There is nothing to be fixed, about you, or your circumstances. You have everything you need in you to face anything that comes your way.
Sandra, can you do me favor? Drop the attitude, drop the mask. It’s not who you are and it doesn’t shield you from being hurt.
I know, all the guys you like won’t give you the time of day. Sebastien, Jacob, Eric, Youverly, Christian… Trust me, these guys will be the best thing that NEVER happened to you!
It will take time for you to find that special person to share your life with. Throughout your teen years you’ll be plagued with the fact that you’ve never been kissed (silly girl). You are more then a princess waiting to be kissed. Enjoy the journey of finding out just who you are rather then looking to attain the goal so that when you do find the one, you will allow him to love you and not hold back.
Your path to your career won’t be straightforward or usual. At times you’ll feel like a failure. But every experience that seems ordinary is preparing you for greater things. Even when you work as a customer service representative and stressed out clients scream at you, don’t let it get to you. In every lowly thing that you do, give your best, work hard, play hard, be joyful, be creative, be you!
Young girl, I know its kind of tacky, but EVERYTHING will turn out good!EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
I know, you think you are the only one having this or that issue but everyone is in the same boat. Everyone has a story. Be vulnerable and share, soon you’ll see you are not alone.
In the mean time know that you are loved, you are worthy, you are beautiful and you have dignity.
Last but not least… Be your own best friend, trust the voice within and RELAX!
Your older self,
Sandra xox0
