A couple of months ago, I decided to get involved in a program from Habitat For Humanity called Women Build. In a nutshell, female volunteers agree to raise a minimum of 500$ and give one day of their time to participate in the construction of houses that will be attributed to deserving families that are less fortunate.
Thanks to all my generous friends and family, I was able to raise more then 500$ after just three weeks!
Yesterday I was scheduled to work on the construction site and I’d like to share the details with you!
I showed on on the St-Henri construction site at 8:30 AM… After looking at the waiver form, I was a little nervous… What if I get hurt? I’m pretty handy, and with my job I get to visit construction sites regularly but I felt a little intimidated to actually work on a construction site! Ahh that Fear!
The duplex we helped build in St-Henri has a 2 bedroom unit on the top floor and a four bedroom unit on the main floor and basement.
Here are a couple of pictures if you’d like to see
For our day on the site my team and I we’re in charge of installing the gyprock sheets in the basement. Its not the most challenging construction task, but it has a certain level of detail and physical work entailed! Some of us never touched a tool before so we had a volunteer construction worker there to help or answer any questions we had! He was so patient!
It was a long day, it was hard work, but I was grateful to have the opportunity to be there and to think about the families who will have a new, home, by Christmas!
Thank you so much for your support!
