I love plants and feel like they are a great element of decoration by themselves. Today, I’m sharing a fun DIY to change up the pots. This is a great way to add a little whimsy to your plant decor! Include a few unlikely figurines to create a colorful and inspiring office desk to bring sunshine into rainy days.
For this project, you’ll need:
- Mason jar
- Clay plant pot
- Gesso
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrushes
- Washi tape
- String
- Scissors
- Precision knife
- Branches
- Schleich figurines
- Plants and soil
Instructions:
1. Apply a layer of gesso to the clay pot and then use acrylic paint to paint patterns.
2. Apply strips of Washi tape to the clay pot and the Mason jar. For irregular or rounded surfaces like the base of the Mason jar, it is preferable to layer narrower strips of tape. Using a precision knife, cut the tape lengthwise to create narrower strips.
3. Place your selection of plants in the pots. To create a terrarium, follow the recommendations regarding the appropriate soil and plants to use before sealing the jar.
4. Hang short strips of Washi tape vertically over a string and stick the tape together. Use scissors to cut out triangle shapes.
5. Paint two branches with gesso and hang the decorated string between the two branches, creating a pennant string. Stick the branches in the soil.
Have fun adding Schleich figurines to your plant composition. Forest animals or dinosaurs will definitely add a bit of whimsy and charm to your decor!
