With all the free design resources out there like Pinterest, Houzz, and design blogs, it’s easy to wonder why someone would invest in an interior designer. I mean, we’re not cheap, and it’s easy for anyone to go shopping and pick out a couple of paint colors and be done with it, right?
Well… not exactly. But if you’re down for doing it on your own, go for it.
However, watch out for those signs:
1.You don’t have time
If you’ve ever approached redesigning a room in your home, you’ll know that it can be time-consuming. If your hands are already full, consider hiring to make better use of your time. An interior designer already has all the resources available and will be able to do the same work in less time.
2.You can’t visualize
You might like a sofa from one store and a chair from another, but you can’t know how they will work together, so it’s hard to make the right decisions. An interior designer is trained to see the styles that go well together, and he or she can use tools like 3D plans to help you visualize your space.
3.You don’t know how to get the Results
You may be able to visualize your space, but if you don’t know which stores to go to, or even what contractor to hire, you are not going to get very far in your project. A designer has all those resources in their tool belt and can help you pull everything together to get the results you want.
4.You are overwhelmed
Between Pinterest, Houzz, blogs, magazines and TV shows, there are so many design inspirations out there. A designer can help you zero in on your needs and help you make those choices while staying focused on the overall vision.
5.You don’t know where to start
For some people, and most designers, looking at a space sparks ideas, inspiration and a creative stream. However, when it’s your own home, it’s easy to get stuck. A designer gives you a pair of fresh eyes and a new perspective. He or she can help you make a plan of where to start and how to finish with a space that reflects your and your family’s style.
6.You have started tackling a project but you’re tired
You’ve done it, you started renovating your kitchen! But as the months pass by, you can’t seem to finalize the little details- the toe kick, that backsplash, etc. It’s called renovation fatigue, and there is no shame in that. A designer will help you complete what you had envisioned without burning you out!
7.You’re thinking of moving
Your current home doesn’t meet your evolving needs? Before putting your house on the market, consider hiring a designer. A designer will help you find solutions with what you have and give you a fresh perspective on your space.
8. You want to save money
It might sound strange to pay someone to design your home in order to save money. However, hiring a designer can help you avoid costly mistakes that will not only help you save money but can increase the value of your home. Furthermore, interior design is considered a skilled trade. While this is not true for all designers, I personally am proud to share my trade discounts with my clients. At anywhere from 10 to 35 percent, this is a savings that adds up; in fact, I have found that with a decisive client and efficient approvals, the discount structure can significantly offset design fees.
9.You want a WOW factor!
Designers can help give you the “wow” factor you’ve been looking for. They are trained to think differently, spatially and to see an overall picture that clients often cannot. Thinking outside the box is what designers do all the time!
I think my client summarized all of this well in her review of my work:
Given all this information, will you consider hiring an interior designer the next time you remodel, buy a home or move?
