A few years ago, Real estate agents advised their clients to keep their house tidy for an open house. Now it takes a little more work to appeal to savvy home buyers.
Here are some practical advice I give to my clients:
Everyday (before you leave your home)
- Keep your house clean
- Always keep the toilet lid down
- Let some background music play while you are absent (classical, jazz, or light rock)
- Leave lights turned on specially in dark rooms and hallways
- In the winter keep your entry way plowed and deglazed
Just before a visit or an open house – CREATE AN AMBIANCE whenever possible
- Set the dinner table for a formal dinner
- Bake an apple pie
- Set out fresh flowers and hang decorative hand towels in the bathroom
- Unless otherwise stated, open all blinds and curtains to let light through
- Tidy up and remove all personal hygiene products
- Put the toilet seat down
- Turn on the radio
- In the winter, turn on your fireplace if you have one.
Last but not least its best to leave visitors alone for the visit.
You are now ready for and Open House
